Hello Iced, it's been a long time ;-) . First of all, bravo for the enormous work you have put in AF since the early days. I'm glad to see most of the things we asked years back are now included (metadatas, fast database, etc.), this is terrific !

I have a small request concerning the use of AF on small computers though, ie. a MacBook for example, with a tiny screen resolution. Even if optimisations have occured since, i think there could be some improvements in this area, depending of the use of AF you have.

For example, i never use the MIDI / music functions like the keyboard at the bottom, or the Keys / BPM / Bars controls at the bottom right. So here is my request : it would be great to have a way to hide these (and move the transport elsewhere ?), so i can gain 4 / 5 lines of sounds in the browser. Something in a "View" menu for example. This principle could apply to all the parts of the UI, so anyone could optimize the AF main window to its tastes and worflows.

Until i miss something in the prefs that can already do that ?

Here is a screen capture so you can view what i'm getting on the oldy MacBook at full height of AF : https://dl.dropbox.com/u/110994/AF/AF_on_MacBook.png
Quite hard to use when browsing IMHO.

Ok everyone as you know every year Apple creates a new version of the OS and the latest is 10.8. Apple has been adding a number of powerful feature to make use of multiple CPUs and several other things like using the GPU for faster graphics. All around the technology in 10.8 demolishes 10.6. But AudioFinder can't use all this great new stuff because it still supports 10.6. That's a problem. If I made AudioFinder 10.8 and newer I could make it 100% crash proof and faster! You would never again crash during a scan when hitting a corrupted file.

I think it about time to go to 10.8. The way this would work is I will bug fix anything serious in AudioFinder for 10.6, but new features would go into the 10.8 version....

What OS on you on and why are you not on the latest?

After having understood the difference between searching the Metadata Database and the lists, I am very happy and using Audiofinder is very convenient.

there are some questions:
I have some files bought by "Tonsturm" for example, it is broadcast wave format with embedded artwork (location of recording for example). Is it possible to show this too in audiofinder?

and here is a wish for future releases:
I seldom need the whole quick look. For me it is enough to see the wave form.
Hi Guys, Been really enjoying using the demo for Audio Finder, I am a Audio Designer from New Zealand. One major request I would love to make and it's the only thing that stops me from using this program all the time is the ability to process files in place via AU Plugins or right click options.

It's great to be able to use AU plugins and process files, It would be even more awesome If I could batch process and instead of copying it to a new out put folder then over writing the source files ( Most of us Audio Designers for games work via Subversion of one sort or another)

If I could just process in place that would be great....Often I need to add effects such as echo and reverb compression ect.. and most other audio editing solutions don't offer tail processing so I have to manually add the silent audio in on each file which is painful when dealing with large amounts of files.

A simple option in the menu where you guys have don't add any sort or renaming to the files such as over-write processed files ect...or having the source directory be the output directory with the option to over-write.

Also, being able to build up a chain rack of AU effects (reverb, delay, compression & eq) and save the chains as presets would be beyond great.

Cheers.
I've been using Audio Finder for years now, and it feels very comfortable. Had a thought this morning about a way to increase the useable space in the browser. Have you ever considered making the waveform preview less wide on the bottom, and putting the mini keyboard directly to the left of it? You could also move the transport to the right of the preview. The empty black area between the keyboard and transport seems like a lot of unused space. That would probably give you another inch on the bottom which could expand the size of the browser. Just a thought.

A dialog will be presented where you click the Open button
after that it will run without being blocked. however, this will have to be done each version of AudioFinder.

Alternatively you can just turn off Gatekeeper because it will get 100% in the way of all your legacy software.
ISSUE

So... once the issue of SARGAM notation was resolved I gathered a brilliant idea. I decided it was FINALLY time to correctly pitch the items in my library... All 60+ gigs of samples from one shot drums to loops to my early days of DITC. Like a mad scientist with a new i went through folder after folder...Command + A, Command + Shift + R, then "prefix pitch detected MIDI & Note Name."

It was like magic seeing how i was doing it was one by one using Melodyne to correct pitch drift and finally label the item with its correct pitch (single note) and/or its correct pitch and key its played in (C Maj, A Min, ect...)

Now It was time to finally just make music!

I took my MPC 4000 apart to reach the hard drive, transferred the library onto it, and started creating instruments. Thats when I noticed it...

A great deal of the detected note name were incorrect! I imported a few of AudioFinder pitch detected items into Melodyne to compare. Some were spot on...others were off two or three steps, an octave or three, and my favorite; the closed hi hat labeled B0.

I did take into consideration the infamous Middle C debate of C3 vs. C4. Since I couldn't find a pattern or logical reason why the notated pitches were inaccurate, I went further and sampled instruments from the roland fantom g into Pro Tools after backing it up and doing a factory reset. I used this as my constant since i knew the pitch of the samples taken.

I went through the same process above and the results from AudioFinder pitch analysis yielded again different results from the recorded and notated pitch of the notes (some but not all).

QUESTIONS

1. when are updated scheduled to correct this issue?
2. are there any updates in mind to correct pitch drift? samples that are a few cents flat or sharp.
3. update the lack of a space in a pitch name labeled by AudioFinder. ( #31 G2Bass vs. #31 G2 Bass)

4. A RENAME PROMPT FOR FILES WITH THE SAME NAME WHEN USING THE POWER RENAME FUNCTION. FILES WITH CONFLICTING NAME ARE TELEPORTED TO AN UNKNOWN PLACE NEVER TO BE HEARD AGAIN :'(

THANKS SO MUCH YOU GUYS

Hello,

First, I want to say I really like this application. I use it very frequently.

I'm not sure if these are feature requests or questions at this point. I may not know all of the features of the program and if there is away to achieve what I want, that would be great.

1. Is there a way to tag based on the directory? -- Let's say I have a sample cd that I downloaded from loopmasters and I know that it is a minimal techno sample cd. If I view the folder in AudioFinder, I would like to tag all sub files from that directory as minimal. I can add the new tag definition, but from that point I'm selecting each file. It would be much more convenient to say right click and select a tag. Then all files would be labeled as minimal for that directory. Working my way down a CD would give me much better information about what files I already have available.

2. Is there a way to use regular expressions to tag/add metadata to files? -- I have a lot of old AKAI CDs that I have been collecting for years. I have them all organized by the disc name. Since these are older files, the metadata is not picked up or is completely wrong. This also happens for a lot of stuff I purchase from Zero G. It would be very helpful if I could write a regular expression to tag/add metadata to all the files in a directory. Since these are from a CD, 9 times out of 10 I could write a simple expression to tag all of the files with the missing information. If this is used with directory tagging, I would be able to go through a CD in minutes.

I think these two features (if not already implemented in some way) would really add to the overall usefulness of this application. At least for me, the tagging/metadata process is just way too daunting to undertake in any reasonable amount of time. If I had started using this application when I was building my library it may not be an issue.

Thanks for checking out my long first post.

Take it ez,
kb
