Please try the 5.3 beta
  • Hi,

Been working on an all new playback engine for the main browser (not the sample tool, that's a different animal)
The old engine was built on APIs that Apple created in the mid 2000's this one is based on their latest. You should notice improvements with mp3, acc, lossless and mp4 files the most. They now work correctly with AudioUnits and not logger have a choppy looking sound position cursor.

Please send me crash reports to: software@icedaudio.com
  • Testing this. One thing I noticed immediately is that jumping around in the browser (by using arrow up/down) is very unresponsive now.
  • That's the auto fade out on the volume stop. I have to make that a pref. It's a de-clicker, basically does a smooth fade to zero when you stop.

i made the fade faster, try this one

  • Working much nicer now.
  • Certainly is zippier! :-)
  • oops just saw this thread..

For me I find it too far to keep moving between sidebar scans and the search field..

it's easier if they are closer?

Also maybe my output has a slightly different filenaming from PT? so play is greyed out for me

  • you can customize the toolbar.
  • well thats gotta be a good thing!

    will download and try...

    cheers
  • actually that customisable toobar is cool...

could you please add the option of buttons for search by " folder " file names" exact match only" way less tiring than clicking and holding and we'd be ab le to see what search parameters are active!

also my bookmarks and side bar organisation has gone!!!!! they take ages to get set up!! they have even gone from the version I was using before..

    from above to this...

I would be quite upset about this.. luckily I backed them up this week :o
  • also - is it just me? but the playback line doesnt line up with selection in the floating large waveform overview...

it plays back what I expect - but visually the line seems to be half inch in head... not super important.. we working!

another side bar idea.. could it be possible to edit the colors of several items at once? can color code related items more easily..
  • there's a bug with the cursor, I'm fixing, I haven't made any changes to the sidebar stuff at all. I'm nit sure why your bookmarks vanished, the only difference in the beta is the engine is different,
  • Hi! came back to report the bug with the cursor - think you know that when u highlight a section and cntrl drag to DAW - you may not get what u were expecting...

no harm done for the sidebar - I do try and back up those occasionally - i guess its a reminder to anyone who has come to rely on the great mix of scan and bookmarks... ( users/ library/app support/ audiofinder... worth right clicking and archiving every so often... )
  • still doesnt cntl drag in to DAW the range selcted

havent checked the surrounds as working at home these few days

had a few crashes today as well..
  • crash reports please?
  • yes plays back in surround.. i just had a music file in interleaved format

I think I need o make a test to check that channels are correctly allocated as it sounds like the surrounds are louder than in the "mix" version..
  • Thanks for testing martin! That's great to know, because my test rig is 4 near field monitors and sub woofer driven by a Focusrite Saffire tricked into using them as 5.1. It's clumsy, but it lets me know if the sound is being output to the right places.

    I fixed the Control-Drag bug:

  • Hi,

Been using the 5.3 beat for a week or two now - generally much quicker :D

Have found a problem though - i can no longer audition midi files? I can see them but it wont preview them or let me add a rating.

On that note I beg you to please add the functionality to rate in the main window (or tag window) which then autosaves - trying to sort though my libraries and then having to hit save for every file is the difference between this app being useful or essential (for me anyway)

anyway keep up the good work - its a great tool but would be grateful for your thoughts on my comments.

    all the best

    Pete
  • the midi files thing is a bug, thanks for letting me know. you know you can also rate a multi selection of files.

once the engine work is done a cool new tagging feature is on the way,
  • this should fix the midi playback

  • Well the current build is looking good. I might release this soon so that I can move on to the next set of big features.

Howdy, Stranger!
