feature request - batch file pitch analyser
  • It would be amazing to batch analyse a group of sounds. For example kicks and snares, and then to be able to see the corresponding pitches per sound in a column ( same type of column as SR/Bits)(or anywhere where the closest pitch is quickly visible really)
This because i often spend a lot of time looking for a kick or snare in a certain frequency area, but it may also be very useful for other type of sounds.
I think this will be groundbreaking if possible.
  • Seconded!

Another function very very similar to this (possibly the same depending on how you look at it) I thought might be useful is an automatic 'Tune To C' for samples you intend to load in a sampler etc ... where the pitch analysis guesses the root note and then shifts the pitch by the required number of semitones.

Obviously the results might not be 100% consistent depending on the material, but I've found the pitch detection in Audiofinder to be very very accurate and have only seen it get it 'wrong' on a handful of occasions.

If this was possible I think it would be an incredible workflow enhancer for musicians that rely a lot on samplers. For EXS24 for example, this would be ideal, imagine having a folder full of different bass or synthesizer sounds all at different pitches, being able to select all, 'Tune To C', then right-click and convert them all to sampler instruments ....
  • not exactly the same, but in the metadata viewer you can click guess pitch on multiple files. did you try that?
  • that's a cool trick. thanks. it does help. it would be great though if audio finder could guess in which octave the pitch resides in though. c1 d3 g4 for example.
  • Hmmm. It actually does, but that's hidden at the moment.
  • these are all great Ideas.
  • apparently sjp disagrees with teknik on accuracy.
  • Well personally I only use the pitch detection on material that it makes obvious sense to .. . and I think the vast majority of your users are the same to be honest. Any thoughts on the 'Tune To C' suggestion? Used with the right material it could be amazing but reading sjp's comments I can see how it could cause trouble for one or two users out there who perhaps have misunderstood the function and current limitations of pitch detection algorithms ...
  • It's an interesting idea, but the thing is AudioFinder does sampler style pitch shifting. Which means it either slows the sound down or speeds it up to achieve a different pitch. The process of doing that would make importing easier, but also modify the source material possibly adding artifacts.
